Thiruvananthapuram: A 53-year-old National Cadet Corps (NCC) associate officer, Lt Regi Joseph, has become the most contacted person by Covid patients for food, medicines and essential covid related items in the Irattayar village near Kattapana in Kerala’s hilly district, Idukki.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Joseph has been the helping hand for most of the needy families who have been affected from the second wave of the novel coronavirus.
Joseph has reached out to the aid of Covid patients, taken part in burying of people who succumbed to the virus, provided medical kits and food to the helpless, and what not.
A Hindi school teacher by profession at the St Thomas Higher Secondary School in Idukki, Joseph understands that he learnt selfless social service from his 83-year-old father.
“Every day I get a few calls, If I can take some to the hospital, some others want medicines to be delivered, others want food to be delivered. I by now have taken two doses of vaccine and am right now at a hospital after I was asked to take a pregnant lady to the hospital for check up,” Joseph told to The Tribune.
Joseph and his wife, who also happens to be a Hindi teacher, have decided to use their April month’s salary in the Covid relief.
“By now we have spent Rs one lakh from our pocket and have bought medical kits and food to the needy. We as part of the NCC decided we will not take contributions from any for social service,” added Joseph.
“After 13 years of marriage, God gifted me and my wife with twins (a boy and a girl). Since then, I decided to dedicate himself for this selfless cause,” Joseph asserted.
