Patna: As India battles with the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, 23-year-old Rohan Taneja, a resident of Samastipur district in Bihar, has delivered more than 50 oxygen cylinders and 300 units of blood to people who have been infected with the deadly virus.

A student of D.El.Ed, Diploma in Elementary Education, Rohan, has been running Samastipur Rakt-Daan Samuh (Blood Donation organisation) which has 30 active members who work 24*7 amid the pandemic.

Yashkarn Singh, Ali Iqbal, Ankit Kumar, Alok Chaudhary, Ravi Kumar, Satyajit Mishra and Aman Bagga are the key members in the organisation, who are serving the people all day.

“Due to Covid-19, people are scared of going to blood bank to donate the blood. And due to the lack of blood in the blood bank, people have to face a lot of difficulties in getting blood,” Rohan tells WeJan.

“We contacted the blood bank, they said that they were facing shortage of blood and not able to provide the same in serious condition. So, we have started a campaign “Home blood donation”. Since then, 10-12 people have donated and till now, we donated 300 units blood to the blood bank,” Rohan adds.

A businessman by profession, Rohan runs a Bisleri water agency and a wholesale biscuit agency. He is also a part-time teacher.

“In this devastating pandemic, many people died due to the lack of Oxygen cylinder. We started collecting funds from locals and people who belongs to Arya Samaj and bought five Oxygen cylinders including two jumbo size and three small size, and started delivering to the needy. Since then, we have delivered 55 cylinders to the needy,” Rohan further says.

Rohan reiterates he and his group members have pledged that till the pandemic gets over, they will continue this selfless work and save people from the virus.

“In our blood donation campaign, we also convey people about the benefits of donating blood, we have our helpline number, Facebook page and WhatsApp group,” Rohan asserts.
