That fateful day
Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in Rawalpindi in 2007.
Under the public eye
She was shot in cold blood after attending a political rally for the 2008 elections, when she was waving to the crowd. Although Al-Qaeda took responsibility, it is widely suspected domestic foul play was involved.
The Bhutto Family
The family descends from the Rajputs and migrated to Sindh in early 18th century. 'Sehto', the first member who converted to Islam, sought to escape imposition of jizya under Aurangzeb.
Rise to Political Fame
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto started the political dynasty in 1967 by founding the "Pakistan People's Party". He served as fourth President and 9th prime Minister.
Deposed and Executed
He was later removed by General Zia Ul Haq in a military coup. In 1979, he was executed.
The early days
She took control of the party along with her mother after her father's demise. She led the country's "Movement for Restoration of Democracy".
Rocky Political Career
She had a rough stint in the pakistan Polity. She served as country's PM never completing a term, exiled numerous times and finally assassinated in 2007
Reformist? or Corrupt?
She stood for women's right and liberalization of the conservative Islamist society. However, her government was constantly bogged down by accusation of corruption and neptosim.
