Mr. Bleser recounts his relationship with India began when he met an Indian Delegation at a Singapore Air Show. "After four years that, the Ministry of Defence signed an agreement with the IAI to provide two search systems,” he told IE.
These days he is helping the Indian Army and Indian Air Force keep a close eye on the border and find solutions to their defence needs.
The Air Force has inducted IAI's Heron MK II to beef up its UAV arsenal. The drone can fly at a height of 35,000 feet, cover a radius of 1000 km, see through dense clouds, work in bad weather and fly for 45 hours.
Heron TP is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). It has been given on lease to Indian Air Force by the IAI for all-weather missions. It is one of two drones from IAI that can be armed.
The drones are capable of a wide variety of functions. Above them all are reconnaissance and rescue. The Heron MK II can climb at a speed of 800 feet per minute, provide real time information and use different data from devices to pinpoint target. It can also carry a rubber dinghy for search and rescue.
The IAI is not just a provider of equipment. It has also signed a joint venture with HAL to manufacture drones in India.HAL has also signed a MoU with IAI to convert civil aircraft into a military fuel tanker.
